About Us - Introduction

Blessed George Napier School is a successful and developing Catholic Comprehensive in the Birmingham Archdiocese. It serves Banbury and the surrounding areas. There are currently 800+ on roll from 11 - 18 years old. The sixth form is small but flourishing and students have the benefit of working in collaboration with Banbury 6th Form Centre and North Oxfordshire College.

As a Catholic school, we are a true community driven by the example of Christ and his teaching to be a place that strives for excellence in all that we do and whose mission statement outlines the school's commitment to the well-being and development of the 'whole child'. The school attracts pupils from 4 Counties. This can make links with our Primary schools difficult, but we are striving to improve our partnerships through shared expertises and resources in order to benefit all students.

Through Sports College Status, the addition of better sports facilities and greater community links we aim to enhance the existing excellent standard of work carried out by a dedicated and committed staff developing the whole child and improving our examination results over all. PE and sport are well established in the school both in curriculum time and in out of hours learning. Students have opportunities to experience PE and sport through recreational activities and competitive situations, many students going on to play at club and county level. We share our new sports facilities (Astroturf and Sports Hall) with neighbouring schools and the wider community with whom we have good sport links. Local clubs and groups use our facilities outside school hours. As a sports college we are a hubsite for the school sports partnership

The Sports College will become a centre of excellence for PE and community sport working locally with the District Council sports development officers, partner primary schools and Secondary schools, Frank Wise Special school and further a field sharing resources and expertise with De Montfort University. As well as students fulfilling their academic potential, through this active partnership with the community and improved facilities we aim to encourage everyone in the community to enjoy sport, ensure individuals achieve their potential in PE and sport and encourage all to develop a healthy lifestyle and take responsibility for their own learning and actions.
