Disability Sport
The Sports College is currently working with Frank Wise School (FW), Cherwell District Council Sports Development (CDC) and English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) to create more opportunities for disability sport in the local community.
There are currently 2 projects:
- Inclusion work with FW: To work with partner special school to co-ordinate a programme of inclusion within the curriculum and develop opportunities for out of hours learning
- Disability sport in the Community: To work in partnership to enable people with disabilities to develop fulfilling involvement in physical activity and sport
Inclusion Work with Frank Wise School
- A group of students travel to BGN every Thursday morning and integrate with the year 10 PE lesson
- Every half term, BGN host a sports afternoon for a group of students from Frank Wise. The afternoon is led by BGN students.
- BGN students currently taking the Community Sports Leaders Award are assisting with lessons at Frank Wise School on Wednesdays
- In the summer term students from BGN run a recreational sport lunchtime club at Frank Wise
Disability Sport in the Community
BGN have worked closely with Cherwell District Council to look at ways to provide opportunities for people with learning difficulties and those who are physically challenged to do sport.
BGN currently hosts a new club for young people on a Tuesday evening 6.30 - 8pm in their Sports Hall. The club is called 'Young Guns', is led by Paul Bibby and covers all types of sports. All are welcome.
Please contact Katie Shires at BGN.
In the new year we hope to set up a similar club for adults at Spiceball Sports Centre.
